"Rethinking the Line"

October 22-25, 2000
Vancouver, British Columbia

The organizers are pleased to announce a policy research conference Rethinking The Line: The Canada-U.S. Border, hosted by the University of British Columbia and the University of Washington, October 22 to 25, 2000 at The Waterfront Centre Hotel, Vancouver, British Columbia.  CAN/AM Border Trade Alliance is speaking at this conference!

We expect the event to reach capacity quickly: PLEASE REGISTER EARLY.

This conference will examine and discuss current research on border issues with a view to identifying future avenues for policy research.  Through eight plenaries, 50 concurrent sessions, workshops and a post-conference roundtable discussion, researchers and policy experts will work towards synthesizing existing research, identifying knowledge gaps and setting a future-orientated research agenda.

Conference Themes:
Working Across the Line will discuss transboundary issues that require cooperation on both sides of the border; Crossing Across the Line considers the flow of people, goods and services across the Canada-U.S. border; The Virtual Line reviews trends in e-commerce, market integration, infrastructure and technical issues as well as border management and policy sovereignty; and finally, Safety and the Line focuses on issues related to public safety, transnational crime, health protection, smuggling, immigration and security.

Who Should Attend
University researchers, research institute representatives, federal, provincial or municipal government policy analysts and policy makers, private sector representatives and non-governmental organization representatives as well as students of public policy will benefit from these sessions.
