CAN/AM BORDER NOTES YEAR 2003 HIGHLIGHTS
- Can/Am Border Trade Alliance's leadership/ideas continue to be utilized by senior Canadian and U.S. government decision makers in the development and
implementation of the Canada/U.S. Smart Border Declaration Plan and beyond.
- Implement the critically important
"low-risk shipment traffic streaming" for Free And Secure Trade (FAST) joint U.S./Canada truck cargo initiative also for NEXUS "low-risk people" use.
- Continue to participate extensively on the Data Management Improvement Act (DMIA) Task Force (now under the Department of Homeland Security) mandated by
Congress to advise, evaluate and assist in improving border-crossing procedures (flow of traffic at airports, seaports and land border ports).
- Serve on numerous steering committees and advisory positions on issues of Border Management, Transportation, Smart Border, Trade Corridor and
Infrastructure Planning with allied organizations.
YOUR MEMBERSHIP IN CAN/AM BTA PROVIDES THE LEADERSHIP for realistic improvement in facilitation of low-risk goods / people at our shared Border while achieving the level of public security required.
- Speaker to key organizations: Center for Strategic International Studies; American Frozen Foods Institute; Delphi Eco Conference; Can. Manufacturers and
Exporters; Great Lakes Security Summit; Can. Importers and Exporters Annual Customs Conference etc. presenting Perimeter Clearance Strategy allowing U.S./ Canada Border to be more seamless. Also, testified
at the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee of the Canadian Parliament.
- U.S. Congress House Northern Border Caucus active with 4 Co-chairs from the border states of WA, ND, MI and NY.
AMERICANS TELLING AMERICANS "WE'RE IN THIS TOGETHER" pilot event held in Seattle, WA Dec. 2003. Can/Am BTA initiative to heighten the perception of the importance of Canada to the U.S. - 2004 National rollout under consideration.
- 2003 Can/Am BTA Conferences had record attendance/ results: in Minneapolis Corridors and Gateways in March; in Ottawa in May; in Calgary with PNWER in
July and in Washington, D.C. in Sept.
